Okay, Y’all ready for this?
So the Secretary of the Senate says pretty much that they cannot, and will not, release the records to look for any accusations by Tara Reade. The DNC chair is actually saying that if there had been any accusations, it would have come up when they did the vetting on Joe Biden before he ran for Vice President!
Julie Adams, the Secretary for the Senate said that she cannot fulfill Biden’s request. They are saying that they cannot legally comply with the request to order the search for that complaint. She put out a statement saying that their attorneys have reviewed the relevant statute governing those records and said,
“The Secretary has no discretion to disclose any such information as requested in vice president Biden’s letter of May 1.”.
Apparently Julie Adams’ statement cited the law’s confidentiality requirements and past Senate guidance…
Now remember, Biden has said that nothing ever happened between him and Tara Reade. In an interview where Biden got grilled by Mika Brzezinski on MSNBClast week, he said that nothing ever happened. He also said he didn’t remember. She backed him into a corner asking him why not have a search done, and you saw how he quickly got wrankled, watch:
After that interview, he asked the Secretary on Friday to explain where personnel complaints from back in the ’90s would be kept. Now mind you, earlier that morning, Biden was demanding that any complaints from Tara Reade be located and released. Biden had said,
“We had understood that the Senate stores records from this office, and from this period, in the National archives. The Archives now states that the records would have remained under the control of the Senate.”
“Accordingly, I request that you take or direct whatever steps are necessary to establish the location of the records of this office, and once they have been located, to direct a search for the alleged complaint and to make public the results of this search. I would ask that the public release include not only a complaint if one exists, but any and all other documents in the records that relate to the allegation…”
So after all of the confusion in the Mika interview, trying to figure out whether that information would be in the National archives or at the Senate, here’s where the confusion comes in for us; The statement that Adams gave today didn’t deny that Tara Reade might have filed a complaint, that it might exist or that it could be at the National Archive. Her statement said that she wouldn’t be able to release the complaint if it EXISTS because there’s a law that ensures confidentiality of those complaints. Wait, what? Ensures the confidentiality for who, Tara Reade? Or Joe Biden?
The DNC chairman is actually trying to compare Biden asking for that information to asking for access to Hillary Clinton emails, saying, “There’s nothing there…”
